couple cuddles for their capitol hill engagement session

CAPITOL HILL, SEATTLE, WA

There's something about in-home sessions that always just feel a little more intimate to me. A little more special. I've always loved visiting other peoples homes, not because I wanna snoop around, but it's because it really tells you so much about someone. There's a simple beauty about being able to watch people walk around in the socks, holding their favorite mug of coffee. Curling up in corners that only they know. Knowing that that couch has had some deep conversations. Some tough conversations. That the coffee table books have heard secrets that no one else has. That there are corners in the room that have dust from trips you've taken. That the cat hair in the rug will probably never come out.

There's beauty in the simple things. Like the fridge magnets. From the books on the shelf, to the tiny hippo statues you got on that trip once. Everything tells a story.

And Elanor and Ryan's engagement was no exception. As a Seattle engagement photographer I'm no stranger to soggy days, and using the rain to make some magic. Rainy wedding days especially (like this January Almquist Winery wedding in Seattle!) can be unbelievably cozy and beautiful! So we explored the wet corners of their neighborhood together on a dark winter Seattle afternoon. Soaking our socks in the chilly rain, we ended our session with wet feet and rosy noses, but it was well worth it to be able to tell their story. Because the imperfect and the messy and the little moments are what tell the real story.

Thank you so much for spending the afternoon with me Elanor + Ryan (and sweet Princess, their kitty)! And for pointing me to one of the best lunch spots ever at Analog Coffee. If you're ever in the neighborhood grab their veggie toast. Cause its life changing.
